New Fire Restrictions for the USFS Southwest District

The United States Forest Service, Southwest District has implemented new emergency fire restrictions in the Cleveland, Angeles, San Bernardino and Los Padres National Forests. The fire restriction is in effect from November 7th 2020 to December 31st 2020.

What is types of fires are restricted?

Per Southwest Regional Order Number: 20-25, these types of fires are being restricted:

  • Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire.
  • Smoking

Are there exceptions?

YES! If you have a Forest Service permit No. FS-7700-48, you’re exempt from this order. Work with the Forest Service Ranger Office to obtain a permit. Another exception is, if you are a Federal, State, or Local Officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force (e.g. Search and Rescue, Forest Fire Fighters, etc.). As long as you’re preforming your official duties.

Can I use a portable gas stove?

YES! Per the order “Persons using a portable campfire ring/pit, lantern or stove with shut-off valves, using gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel within an open Developed Recreation Site.” If you are in a developed campsite you can use your portable gas camp stove.
