Genoa Peak Trail, near Lake Tahoe
This trail starts behind the department of transportation yard, west of Spooner Lake. The GPX will start you near Spooner Lake on HWY 50 and you’ll end on Kingbury Grade HWY 207.
This trail is very easy, some of the trail has pavement while the rest is hard pack dirt. This trail will take you deep into the forest and show you some amazing views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding wilderness. Please remember to stay on the trail! This area is very sensitive and the offroad community would love to keep it open for everyone to enjoy. Another word of caution, the Tahoe rim trail runs through this area, so watch for hikers and mountain bike riders.
The view from Genoa Peak is really amazing, take many pictures! Do not mess with the repeater area, these antennas are active and can cause harm to you if you get too close. Coming down off Genoa Peak there is a trail that is a little hard to the left, its steep and rocky (4×4 and high clearance) I recommend you don’t do it unless you’re experienced. Headed to Kingsbury you’ll find more trails and fun areas to explore. At the end of the trail you’ll find bathrooms and a large parking area for UTVs/motorcycles/mountain bikes. If you are interested in exploring with one of these, do the trail backwards.
